With Avdija and Sharpe nursing separate injuries, the Hawks have a prime opportunity to turn things around although they would need Jalen Johnson to be at his aggressive best here. It can be recalled that Johnson was only limited to 12 points when these last two teams faced and it wasn’t even because he struggled from the field. Johnson was extremely passive despite playing 38 minutes as he only attempted nine shots and that’s not exactly what the Hawks need from him against an offensive-driven squad like the Trail Blazers.
For the Hawks to even things up, Johnson will need to find his shot a little more and try to use his length against the Trail Blazers backcourt. Although the Trail Blazers have lethal scorers like Jrue Holiday and Jerami Grant that can get buckets in a hurry, they lack consistent defensive rim protection and size in the paint which the Hawks can take advantage of here. The Trail Blazers, on the other hand, will have to make sure they don’t fall behind early as playing catch up could force them into rushing offensive sequences which is something they don’t want to do on the road against a Hawks team that is really good in transition.
